Perceptive Content: Using Annotations

Annotations are used in Perceptive Content to modify documents by adding additional context in the form of notes, approvals, or to highlight elements of a document. Annotation Templates are pre-formatted annotations that are permission-based for relevant user groups. The primary annotation types used at Valparaiso University are Text, Text Stamps, and Sticky Notes.

Creating an annotation

  • In Perceptive Experience (web-based), an annotation is added using the ‘Annotate Page’ icon.

  • Click the drop-down arrow, and select either Create Annotation, or from the Recently Used list.

List of three options, Create Annotation, Hide Annotations, Recently Used
  • After clicking create, a small gray box with a dashed-outline will appear, drag this box to the location on the document where you want to place your annotation. Be careful to not place it over any relevant information on the document - later users may not be able to move your annotation.

  • Select the Annotation Type you would like to use (usually Text or Text Stamp) from the drop-down list.

  • Select the Annotation Template you would like to use. Only templates for which you have permission will appear in the drop-down list. Consider your role relative to this document when selecting your annotation if using an approval or denial annotation. (e.g. Advisor, Instructor, Department Chair)

  • Click Add

  • For a Text Stamp, the process is complete.

  • For a Text annotation, you can now add free-form content. If you use a Text Template, click the small pencil icon below to add your free-form content. The default information (username and date in this example) will remain. Click OK when you are done.
