Request and Get Started with a Screencast-O-Matic Account

Screencast-O-Matic is a web-based tool for creating video and still screen captures, similar to Camtasia. Faculty are the primary intended users of this tool for creation of classroom instructional content.
Step-by-step guide to request a Screencast-O-Matic Account
Screencast-O-Matic is integrated with our Google domain.
- Visit https://screencast-o-matic.com/govalpo
- You will be prompted to enter your Google email, use your '@valpo.edu account, click Next
- You will then be prompted for your Password
- Your account for Screencast-O-Matic will be created.
- When you go to use your account for the first time you will be prompted to Download the software to your computer, follow the prompts to download
- If you receive a notification that Administrator rights are required, contact helpdesk@valpo.edu for assistance.
- Please note, our licenses are per computer, not per user, so please refrain from downloading on multiple devices if possible
- Apps are available for use on both Android and iOS devices
- Screencast-O-Matic can be launched from the Google Suite toolbar within your Google account
Saving your videos
We recommend saving your videos to a Google Drive folder for space considerations.
Using Screencast-O-Matic in Blackboard
See screenshot examples in the far right column
- From within your Blackboard Course under Content, select Build Content
- Under the Create heading, scroll down to Screencast-O-Matic
- Complete the Information section as you would for any content (availability, description, etc.)
- Click Submit
- You may be prompted to enter your Google login on first use
- A new item will be created in your Content section
- Select the item you just created
- You can now work with Screencast-O-Matic
- VIDEO - allows you to create a video to share with students
- CHANNEL - allows you to share a previously created Channel with students
- RECORDER - allows students to create a recording to submit to you
- You can select a previously created Channel for students to record their work
