Circulation Barcode Scanners

Purpose:

The Circulation Desk has several barcode scanners for different purposes.

Overview:

There are several barcode scanners located at the Circulation Desk that serve various purposes.

Procedure:

1. Symbol Technologies barcode scanners:

a. There are four (4) Symbol Technologies barcode scanners located in the ASRS Loading area. These are for the computers that
access the ASRS.

b. Three (3) of the four (4) scanners need to have their triggers pulled for the item to scan. One (1) automatically scans. If
there is already a red light emanating from the scanner, you do not have to pull the trigger to make it work.

c. If the scanner does not scan the barcode:

i. Verify that the correct entry box is clicked on at the page. (i.e: Scan Item Number)

ii. Verify that the cord connecting the scanner and the computer is connected securely.

iii. Attempt to scan the barcode at various angles.

iv. If nothing works:

1. Manually input barcode number into the computer.

2. Turn off the computer.

3. Wait a minute and restart the computer.

4. If the scanner still does not work contact the IT desk at x5678.

2. Meterologic Voyager barcode scanner:

a. There is one (1) Meterologic Voyager barcode scanners located at the Circulation Desk. This scanner is connected to the
computer with access Sierra as well as the ILL checkout program

b. If the scanner does not scan the barcode:

i. Verify that the correct entry box is clicked on at the page. (i.e: Scan Item Number)

ii. Verify that the cord connecting the scanner and the computer is connected securely.

iii. Attempt to scan the barcode at various angles.

iv. If the barcode is a patron ID:

1. Run a finger across barcode and rescan. (The oil from your skin may make the barcode easier to read.)

2. Slightly flex the ID card in and out and rescan. (The different angles of flexing the card may make the barcode easier to
scan.)

v. If nothing works:

1. Manually input barcode number into the computer.

2. Turn off the computer.

3. Wait a minute and restart the computer.

4. If the scanner still does not work contact the IT desk at x5678.

3. Handheld Adeptus barcode scanner:

a. There is one (1) Hand Held Adeptus scanner located at the Circulation Desk. This scanner is connected to the computer with
access the Millennium program as well as the ILL checkout program

b. If the scanner does not scan the barcode:

i. Verify that the correct entry box is clicked on at the page. (i.e: Scan Item Number)

ii. Verify that the cord connecting the scanner and the computer is connected securely.

iii. Attempt to scan the barcode at various angles.

iv. If the barcode is a patron ID:
