ASRS Container Management for Inventory

Purpose:

This procedure will walk the circulation manager through container management options in the HK database for various inventory purposes.

Overview:

Multiple container management options are highlighted including locking/unlocking containers, modifying containers, and using the semi-auto mode to move containers.

Basic computing, filter creation in EMS Control Center

Safety Issues/Precautions:

Working with the ASRS is inherently safe as long as the basic safety guidelines all students are taught in orientation are followed.

ASRS workstation

Procedure:

Locking and Unlocking a Container

1. log in to the EMS Control Center application under Username: Admin Password: none

2. Identify the locked container that is needed by running the Unavailable Container filter under the Containers tab and selecting the appropriate container.

a. Once the locked container is identified, record the Container ID so that you can use it later in this procedure.

3. Once the locked container is pulled up under the Containers tab click on the blue hyperlinked text under the Container Current Location column.

a. An example of a locked container would be ML010091221

4. A new window will open up that is titled for our example: ASRS Location {Current Location: ML010091221} Details

5. In this window the Status row will have the word Unavailable in a blue font next to it.

6. At the bottom of this window, click on the phrase Change Location Status.

7. Choose: Make Available from the options.

8. Close the window.

9. Container is now retrievable through the established Container Retrieval procedure beginning at step 14.

10. Once done working with the container and it is released from the workstation it must be relocked.

11. Click on the Containers tab and use the Container Retrieval procedure to create a filter that will bring up the container you want to work with.

a. Use the Container ID that you recorded earlier.

12. Click on the blue hyperlinked text under the Container Current Location column.

13. A new window will open up that is titled for our example: ASRS Location {Current Location: ML010091221} Details

14. In this window the Status row will have the word Available in a blue font next to it.

15. At the bottom of this window, click on the phrase Change Location Status.

16. Choose: Make Unavailable from the options.

17. Close the window.

18. Container is now locked again and is unavailable for request.

Modifying a Container

1. log in to the EMS Control Center application under Username: Admin Password: none

2. When modifying the characteristics of a container there are a few things to keep in mind.

a. Container cannot be pulled up and physically at the workstation, it must be in its standard location.

b. Container must be empty in order to be modified.

3. Once you have identified the container to be modified through the use filters on the Containers tab, you must click on the row for that container so that it is now highlighted.

4. You can now either right-click on the row and select Modify Container at the bottom of the menu or click on the words Modify Container at the bottom of the page to bring up a new window with all modification options
available.

5. Here you can modify the container in a number of ways:

a. Restrict access(not currently used)

b. The number of sectors can be 1,4,6, or 8 with 8 being the default

c. Random or dedicated inventory

d. Fill status to either Full or Empty

6. Once all modifications are made, you may use the container to fit your materials as needed.

Semi-Auto Mode Movement of Containers

Warning: Changes in inventory due to semi-automatic commands are not tracked and result in discrepancies within the system if not used properly.

This warning comes directly from the Dematic Users Manual and should be heeded. This procedure will not detail the process of running the semi-automatic mode of the SRMs as this functionality is not used in any day-to-day capacity.
