Batch Enroll Students in Blackboard
FOR BLACKBOARD SYSTEM ADMINISTRATORS: Batch Enroll Users is a way to add multiple users to a course and assign them a course role. Users that don't exist in the system will be created in the system and added to your course. The tool to use in Microsoft Excel and the student list has been saved as CSV (comma-separated values).
The university offers a program called Dalian where hundreds of students living in China are enrolled in courses using the Valpo Blackboard. This procedure is specifically to document that process. However, this article also provides a template for students in general, but for students who are enrolled in regular university courses for credit, they must go through the registrar to be added to a Blackboard course.
Step-by-step guide
On the Blackboard Control Panel, expand the Users and Groups section and select Users.
On the Users page, select Batch Enroll Users.
Select Browse to locate the CSV file, and select a Delimiter Type Comma.
About the batch enrollment template CSV file
The User Name must be unique and cannot contain spaces.
The Password field is case-sensitive.
All fields (columns) are required. If First and Last names are not provided, use ?? (double question marks) for the last name and ? (single question mark) for the first name.
Each file must be the supported file type CSV (comma-delimited values).
Don't include blank lines between rows (records.) The blank line will be processed and return an error.
Remove the column headings prior to submitting.
Blackboard recommends that each batch enrollment file not exceed 500 records because of timeout restrictions associated with most browsers.
The following error will occur if you do not remove the column headings, but the student users were successfully added to the course.
Batch Enrolling Non-Dalian Students
If you want to batch any group of students, you will change your CSV file and use this template format.
Students who are enrolled in regular university courses for credit, they must go through the registrar enroll and to be added to a Blackboard course.
