What are “recovery options” in AMS, and why should I set them?
In our Account Management System (AMS), the options for a mobile phone number and alternate (non-Valpo) email address are your “recovery options” and can be used when you need a password reset. They're a way to identify that you are the person requesting your password reset, and not someone else trying to break into your account or play a mean prank on you. Recovery options are especially useful when you’re working on a project when the Help Desk is closed and unavailable to reset your password for you.
You can use any phone number, whether it’s a cell phone or regular landline. When you request a password reset, you choose whether to receive a text message or a voice call to provide the necessary security code. Likewise, you can use any non-Valpo email address as an alternate; you simply need to be able to access that account to retrieve the security code you’ll receive.
It’s a good idea to periodically check that your recovery options in the AMS are current. Phone numbers and email addresses can change, and you won’t want to get stuck at the wrong moment by having out-of-date information entered in the system!
IT guarantees that we will never use this contact information for any other purpose than resetting your password. We won’t sell it to a marketer or use it to harass you. You can rest assured that your information is safe.
