Step-by-step guide
Removing Dropped/Inactive Students
When you request your Blackboard course, students may still be registering and dropping courses. Students will show in your course as INACTIVE. These students will appear in attendance lists and in the Grade Center. To remove these students from your course, follow the instructions below.
Click on Users & Groups and select Users.
Choose students any student(s) who have their Available column marked as No.
Click on the button Remove Users from Course either on the bottom or the top of the list.
Be aware that students that any data (assignments, tests, etc.) tied to the student will be cleared, too. Also, if the student is still listed as active, they have not processed their drop requests through the Office of the Registrar.
Why aren't students automatically removed from my Blackboard courses when the drop the course?
Students are not automatically removed from dropped courses because there may be information in your grade center or work turned in that would be lost. We want to ensure that you are ready for that student to be removed from the course. Automating that process could result in a loss of data an instructor may wish to retain for a period of time after the drop occurs. Therefore, we leave it to the discretion of the instructor to decide the right time to remove the student and their data from the course.
