Change/Reset Your Password
Your ValpoNet password will expire every two years and must be 14 characters to ensure your are using a secure password that cannot be easily hacked with modern algorithms. You'll receive an email approximately two weeks in advance of its expiration; we recommend you reset or change your password as soon as possible once you receive that email so that your account doesn't become locked.
Step-by-step guide - Reset a Forgotten Password
This option will work if you have setup your password recovery options in the Account Management System (AMS).
- Visit the AMS at https://apps.valpo.edu/ams.
- Click the "Reset My Password" link.
- In the pop-up window, type your ValpoNet username and click the Submit button.
- Select your preferred method for receiving a temporary login code.
- After receiving the code and entering it on the screen, follow the on-screen prompts to select a new password.
If you're unable to reset your password through the AMS or don't have your password recovery options setup, bring a photo ID (OneCard, driver's license, passport) to the Help Desk to request a password reset. Our staff will walk you through the steps to reset your password. Once your ID is verified, your password will be reset to your 7-digit ID number.
Step-by-step guide - Change or Set Your Password
These instructions work for setting your password the first time, or after your password is reset by IT staff.
- Visit the AMS at https://apps.valpo.edu/ams.
- At the login page, enter your ValpoNet credentials and click the Submit button.
- If your account is new and this is the first time you're setting your password, your default password is your 7-digit ID number. If you don't know your ID number, contact HR (employees), the Registrar's Office (students), or Alumni Relations (alumni).
- Click the "Change Password" button and follow the on-screen prompts to select a new password.
Step-by-step guide - IT Assisted Password Reset
If you do not have recovery options set, you can contact IT for assistance resetting your password.
- Option #1: Visit the IT Help Desk, located on the ground floor of the Christopher Center and speak with staff directly.
- Option #2: Email helpdesk@valpo.edu with an attached picture of your state ID or passport. We MUST confirm your identity before we can reset your password, NO EXPECPTIONS. This protects your account by ensuring no one can claim to be someone they are not and get access to your account.
- While you may call the IT Help Desk at 219.464.5678, we will not be able to assist over the phone as we can not confirm your identification through this option. You will be required to send a picture of your identification via email or come in-person to visit the desk for further assistance.
*Please note: We may need additional information to confirm your identity, depending on the situation. Please be aware that password resets requiring IT assistance are NOT GUARANTEED to be immediate. While the Help Desk does have hours 7 days a week during the regular academic year, we are not a 24/7 office and recommend always having your own recovery options set up for this reason. Our current Help Desk hours are posted on our website: valpo.edu/it
Got a shared account?
If you have a shared email account that is used by multiple people within your department, the process to change or reset the password is the same as above.
The only difference: use the email address of the shared account as the username when logging into the AMS.
Submitting Photo Identification
If you aren't able to visit the Help Desk with your photo ID (Valpo OneCard, state-issued ID, driver's license, passport, etc.), you can scan or take a picture of it (make sure the picture is clear) and send it to helpdesk@valpo.edu.
