FAQ - Online Directory

Common questions regarding Valpo's online directory, both the public and internal versions.

 

Question:
Where do I find Valpo's online directory?

Answer:
From on campus or with a ValpoNet login, visit: intra.valpo.edu/directory

From off-campus, visit: valpo.edu/directory

If you have problems accessing the site or logging in with your ValpoNet credentials, contact the IT Help Desk.

People Finder / People Search

Question:
What if I don’t know the person's full name?

Answer:

  1. Click on People Finder. 
  2. Enter as much information as you know. Examples: Jeff P, Smith, J Doe, etc.

 

Question:
Why isn't a particular student appearing in the search? I know they are a student here.

Answer:
The student has elected to NOT have their information displayed.

 

Question:
Why isn't it displaying student class standing?

Answer:
This was a policy decision. If you would like to see this information added, please send an email to directory.feedback@valpo.edu.

 

Question:
I can find the student. Why don't I see a contact phone number or an address for them?

Answer:
The student has elected not to have this information displayed.


Question:
I can find the employee. Why isn't the public directory displaying employee personal information, such as home address, home phone and spouse name?

Answer:
This was a policy decision for the public directory. The internal directory does display this personal information by default.  If the personal information link is missing, the individual has elected not to have this information displayed.


A-Z Students (Internal Directory only)

Question:

What is the A-Z Students link for?

Answer:
This is an alphabetical listing of all students currently attending Valparaiso University, who have elected to display their information.

 

Question:
Why isn't a particular student appearing in the A-Z Student listing?

Answer:
The student has elected to NOT have their information displayed.

 

Question:
Why does the A-Z Students list take so long to display?

Answer:
There is a lot of information to display. This may even cause your web browser to lock up. If you know who you are looking for, it is advised that you do a search for them.


Question:
I'm a student and I don't want my information displayed publicly or to the internal campus. What do I do?

Answer:

  1. Log in to DataVU: datavu.valpo.edu
  2. Click on the Student Menu.
  3. Under "Academic Profile," click on "My On-Line Directory Options."
  4. Choose your directory options.
  5. Click "Submit."

A-Z Employees (Internal Directory only)

Question:
What is the A-Z Employees link for?

Answer:
This is an alphabetical listing of all employees currently working for Valparaiso University.

 

Question:
Why does the A-Z Employees list take so long to display?

Answer:
There is a lot of information to display. This may even cause your web browser to lock up. If you know who you are looking for, it is advised that you do a search for them.


Question:
I'm an employee (faculty, staff, other) and I don't want my information displayed publicly or to the internal campus. What do I do?

Answer:
On the public directory, the only information currently being displayed is University-owned information (office phone number, office room number, email address, etc.). You do NOT have the option to opt-out of having the University-owned information displayed.

On the internal directory, both University-owned and additional personal information such as your home address, home phone, and spouse name may be displayed. If this information is available, a link that says "Click to view Personal Information" is provided to the right of the record.

By default, the internal directory does display this personal information. If you would like your personal information to be withheld from displaying in the internal directory, follow these instructions:

  1. Log in to DataVU: datavu.valpo.edu
  2. Click on the Employees Menu.
  3. Under "Employee Profile," click on "My On-Line Directory Options."
  4. Choose your directory options.
  5. Click "Submit."

Department Numbers / People in a Department / Department Search

Question:
How do I find the people who work in a specific department?

Answer:

  1. Click on Department Numbers. 
  2. Enter the department you're looking for into the search box on the left (appears below the words "People Finder"). 
  3. Click "Submit."
  4. The list of people will display below the department name.

 

Question:
What if I don't know the full name of a department?

Answer:

  1. Click on Department Numbers. 
  2. Enter the information you know into the search box on the left (appears below the words "People Finder"). 
  3. Click "Submit."
  4. All departments that are similar to the information you entered will appear along with the people in those departments.

Question:
What if I only know the department code?

Answer:

  1. Click on Department Numbers. 
  2. Enter the information you know into the search box on the left (appears below the words "People Finder"). 
  3. Click "Submit."
  4. All departments that are similar to the information you entered will appear along with the people in those departments.

 

Question:
What if I don't know how to spell the department name?

Answer:

  1. Click on Department Numbers. 
  2. Enter the information you know in to the search box on the left (appears below the words "People Finder"). 
  3. Click "Submit."
  4. All departments that are similar to the information you entered will appear along with the people in those departments.

Building Addresses / Building Search

Question:
How do I find the address of a specific building?

Answer:

  1. Click on Building Addresses.  By default, this will list all of the buildings.
  2. OR after clicking on Building Addresses, enter the information about the building in the search box on the left (appears below the words "People Finder").
  3. Click "Submit."
  4. All buildings that are similar to the information you entered will appear.

What if I only know the building code?
