BLOOM Scholars Program

The Bloom Scholars Program is designed to academically, socially, and culturally, prepare a cohort of newly admitted first-year students for life at Valparaiso University and beyond. The Bloom Scholars Program is a four-year model that provides an academic foundation, beginning with a four-week intensive summer bridge meant to seamlessly transition participants into their first semester at the university. During the summer bridge program, students will complete college-level coursework and live at Valparaiso University, at no cost to the student, to help them adjust to campus life.

Section Creation

Right now, GS-390 is taken by BLOOM students over the summer, typically Summer 2. When creating these sections, we want to make sure we add the "Bloom Students Only" registration restriction (RBLOOM) and ensure the section has 0 billing credits.

Registration

The program director will email us a list of incoming students that need to be registered. Before adding these students, make sure to check their program start date. These students are being admitted for the Fall term and will have a Fall start date, but to take a summer class their program start date will need to be changed to the first day of Summer classes. For example, Fall 2024 students start on 8/21/24 but the BLOOM students will need to have their record updated to 5/14/24, the beginning of Summer. BLOOM students also have a BLOOM student type. Make sure to add this student type to their record before registering them. The student type start date must be before the program start date. For the 2024 students, we used 5/1/24. Finally, make sure these students accept their payment agreement before registration.
