MATLAB is a mathematical computational software program used in the College of Engineering and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The name "MATLAB" refers to both the software program and the proprietary programming language used to interface with it. All Valpo students, faculty, and staff members are eligible to download and install unlimited copies of MATLAB and over a dozen included toolboxes free of charge. Once you have downloaded the software, install it following this guide. Please see the MATLAB FAQ document for more information about licensing.
STEP 0
Before you can download and install the individual license of MATLAB on your personal computer(s), you must first create a Mathworks account. Start by browsing to Valpo’s Mathworks portal page:
https://www.mathworks.com/academia/tah-portal/valparaiso-university-40618399.html
STEP 1
From this landing page, click the >> Get started today link under “Download MATLAB”.
STEP 2
If you have created a Mathworks account in the past using your Valpo email address, log in with those credentials on the next screen and skip to Step 5. If you have not, you will need to create one with your Valpo email address. Click the text that reads Create Account.
Next you will see a screen titled “Select Your Country.” Select the United States using the blue button.
STEP 3
To create your Mathworks account, first enter your Valpo email address. Then answer the question “How will you use MathWorks software.” Students will choose Student use and faculty should select Teaching or research in school. Click the Create button to create your account.
You might already have an account!
If the red message box below appears, you have already created a MathWorks account at some point and will need to recover the password at http://www.mathworks.com/login (click Forgot Password?)
STEP 4
Check your Valpo email inbox and click on the Verify your email button.
On the resulting website, complete your MathWorks profile and click Create.
STEP 5
Check that your MathWorks account has been associated with the University’s license and download the MATLAB installer. If you do not see the green message below, contact IT for help.
When choosing a release to download, note that the university runs MATLAB 2018a in all of its labs and classrooms. You may download a newer version, but note that any files you create may not be compatible with the software you use on-campus.
STEP 6
Choose your operating system to start the MATLAB download.
Once you have downloaded your desired MATLAB product, install it following this guide.
