Access Student Information as a Parent or Guest (Proxy)

Step-by-step guide for Parent/Guest (Proxy) to access student information

Your student must initiate this process to grant you access. Student directions can be found here: Add Proxy Access to your Valpo Accounts for a Parent or Guest

Proxy Access Granted

  • The Parent/Guest (Proxy) will receive an automated email from the IT HelpDesk when access has been added or changed.
  • Visit https://datavu1.valpo.edu/Student/ to login to your account

Userid formats

New users will receive a ValpoNet userid that begins with your first and last initial, followed by 7 digits, e.g. Jane Doe would be jd1234567.

Users with existing ValpoNet credentials (alumni, employees) will be your short username, typically first initial followed by first 7 characters of last name.


Proxy User with existing credentials (an existing user account with Valparaiso University)

  • If you have previously had access to Valparaiso University accounts, either your student's or your own,
    • Your ValpoNet userid will remain the same
    • Your password will remain the same, but you will be prompted to change it on first login

NEW Proxy User (no previous user account with Valparaiso University)

  • If are new user to Proxy, you will receive a second email from the IT HelpDesk with an initial password. 
    • You will be prompted to change it on your first login

  • After changing your password, you will be prompted to login.

Viewing Student Record

  • After login, you will have a popup with an option as to which record to view. 
    • Your own account will be listed first. 
    • The student's will be listed below. If you have access for multiple students they will each be listed.


Select whose record you wish to view

  • You can toggle  between your access and your students' by clicking on the Sign Out option in the upper right hand corner with the option to Sign Out or Change Proxy User

  • When viewing your student's record, a green bar will appear across the top showing your name "acting on behalf of" your student and you will be able to search around the student information.

Managing your own record

  • If you click on your own record, among any other access you may have, you will have the ability to use the User Profile and update your email address.
  • You can toggle  between your access and your students' by clicking on the Sign Out option in the upper right hand corner with the option to Sign Out or Change Proxy User

If the student changes or rescinds any or all permissions, the proxy user will receive an email that says a change was made, but it will not specify what the changes were.
