As Zoom becomes a more consistent medium of hybrid instruction, the Office of Information Technology would like to encourage all faculty and staff to delete any old Zoom recordings from previous semesters that may have been stored on their Zoom account using the cloud storage feature.  Deleting or relocating these recordings will help keep Zoom accounts more organized and save on the storage space that the University purchases.  This article will serve as a guide for how to successfully download and backup any cloud recordings that you wish to save for future use.  We have also included the deletion schedule as laid out in our retention policy for your convenience.

In order to keep the University’s storage volume down, we will be implementing the following deletion schedule for all university Zoom accounts:

Recordings made PRIOR to August 17, 2020

On February 26, 2021 all Zoom recordings made before August 17, 2020 will be moved to “Zoom Trash.”
March 12, 2021 will be the last day to recover recordings made before August 17, 2020 from “Zoom Trash” before they are officially deleted.

Fall 2020 Semester Recordings

On April 14th, 2021 Zoom recordings made before January 1, 2021 will be moved to “Zoom Trash.”
May 14, 2021 will be the last day to recover recordings made before January 1, 2021 from “Zoom Trash” before they are officially deleted.

Downloading Zoom Recordings in MacOS

Fortunately, Zoom's web interface is standard across all operating systems and most web browsers, so the download process for Macs looks almost identical to the Windows process.  The below graphic shows you how to download the recordings from your Zoom profile and how to save them in MacOS.

Once the file is in your "Downloads" folder, you will be able to move it to your desired cloud storage location.  We recommend using Google Drive for this purpose.  You can use the web interface for Google Drive, or follow the link above to an article describing how to download Google Drive for Desktop.
