Department:

Circulation

Purpose:

To schedule the days the Christopher Center is open in the Sierra system so it can determine due dates for certain check outs.

Overview:

After obtaining a list of holidays from the Registrar’s web page, the days closed are entered into the Sierra system. This should be done every 6 months to ensure proper due dates for patrons.

Procedure

1. Open up the VU Registrar’s webpage on any web browser at the URL: http://www.valpo.edu/registrar/

2. Under the “Calendars and Planners” section select “Academic Calendar”. (http://www.valpo.edu/registrar/acadcalendars.php)

3. Choose the current school year. (i.e. 2014-2015)

4. Print calendar. All days which the University is scheduled to be closed the Christopher Center will be closed as well.

5. Open Sierra Circulation.

6. Click on the “Admin” tab located on the top of the Sierra Circulation taskbar.

7. From the drop-down menu hover over “Parameters”.

8. From the next drop-down menu hover over “Circulation”.

9. From the next drop-down menu click “Days Closed”

10. Enter initials.

11. Remove past days' closed entries on location “C***” by clicking like and pressing delete. 

12. Enter new days closed by clicking the “Append” button located on the upper left side.

13. Set location as “C****”.

14. Set Day Closed as noted on the calendar printed from the Registrar’s website as month and day. (i.e. 05-15)

15. Click the “OK” button located at the lower right of the Sierra screen.

16. Repeat steps 12-15 until all Days Closed have been entered.

17. Click on the “Close” folder icon located in the upper left of the Sierra screen.

18. Sierra will pop up a warning telling you data has been changed and asking if you wish to continue. Click the “YES” button if you wish to save your changes, or the “NO” button if not.

19. If you have selected “YES” Sierra will process the saved changes. This process may take a small amount of time, do not
close the Sierra program until it has finished the process.
