*Procedure: *Borrowing Privileges for Summer Programs
Purpose: This procedure will set the use of library materials for Summer Programs.
Overview: Staff of Union Summer Programs will have the ability to check out material from the Christopher Center as laid out by the procedure below.

Policy: Valparaiso University hosts several programs on its campus during the summer, and the Christopher Center Library is proud to offer certain borrowing privileges to the staff members of those summer programs, with prior approval from the Harre Union summer program staff. The borrowing privileges detailed in this policy apply only to staff at those Summer Programs with advance permission from the Library. Any Program seeking borrowing privileges for its staff must have the Union Representative gain the Library’s approval in advance. Patrons will be issued a Library card for the duration of the Summer Program (normally one month), and will be allowed to check out circulating monographs from our collection for that time period. Patrons will not be allowed to check out any media items.
Procedure:
Step 1: A librarian will serve as the Librarian Liaison to the Program, working with the Union Representative to coordinate this service.
Step 2: A Union Representative will provide a list of all Summer Program Staff to the Christopher Center. Only patrons on this list will be issued a Library card.
Step 3: Summer program staff will come to the Circulation Desk and request a Library card on an individual basis.
a.) Patron must provide a valid ID with:
i.) Name
ii.) Address
b.) Patron will answer all questions needed for a Library Card:
i.) Name
ii.) Address
iii.) Phone Number
iv.) Email Address
Step 4: Circulation will keep a simple list of the names of those Summer Program Staff who have obtained Library cards.
Step 5: Patron will be issued a Library card for the duration of the Summer Program (normally one month), and will be allowed to check out circulating monographs from our collection for that time period.
Step 6: Patron accounts will be set to expire one day before the Summer Program ends.
Step 7: In the days before the Summer Program ends, a Circulation Manager will review the accounts of those staff members who have obtained borrower’s cards. The Circulation Manager will work with the Librarian Liaison to issue reminders to those patrons about upcoming due dates.
Step 8: Patron will be held accountable for any items that they have checked out that are damaged or not returned prior to leaving the Summer Program.
Step 9: Patron will be contacted prior to the end of the Summer Program and reminded that they have item/items yet to return.
