Exam Accommodation Request - Faculty Process

A student who has received approval for academic accommodations for testing may submit a request to use their accommodations, particularly if testing with the Access and Accommodations Resource Center (AARC). This article explains the overall process, and particularly the faculty role and responsibilities.

 Process Overview - Student Request

Steps in a student requesting, and faculty supporting, exam accommodations

  1. The student submits the Exam Accommodation Request form, requested at least 7 days before the exam date.

  2. The request is reviewed by AARC staff to confirm accommodations allowed

    1. If request is denied, the student receives a notification and the process ends

  3. A request approved by AARC staff generates the following:

    1. An email to the student notifying them of the approved request with

    2. A Google calendar invitation to the student for the date and time of the exam

    3. An email to the faculty member with a link to the Exam Accommodation Faculty Reply form

 Process Overview - Faculty Response

  1. Faculty receives an email from AARC - Access & Accom Resource Center, with a Subject “AARC - Exam Accommodation Request (course section), (student name)”

  2. The email contains a link to the Exam Accommodation Faculty Reply form.

    1. This form is pre-populated with the student, course, and exam date and time information for the request. (see example for fields to be pre-populated)

    2. Faculty are asked to review the information for accuracy, and respond to the remaining questions about the exam

    3. Faculty may upload the exam to the form at this time, or indicate that they will either email or deliver the exam to the AARC at a later time.

  3. The form response will be received by the AARC and used to provide the exam to the student with the faculty’s instructions.
