Accessing Passwords for Specific Electronic Journals or Resources

Accessing Passwords for Specific Electronic Journals or Resources

Purpose:

This procedure explains how to access a password for a specific electronic journal or resource.

Overview:

Sometimes the library cannot afford a campus-wide or even building-wide license for a specific electronic journal or resource. In that case, we have to set up password access. This procedure explains how to find the login and password, so that we can login the patron. Do NOT share passwords with patrons- log them in on one of the CCLIR computers. NOTE: This procedure for finding passwords does not apply to password protected sites for our various systems (OCLC, EBSCO, etc.)

Required Knowledge/Skills:

Familiarity with / access to FOLIO Inventory.

Equipment/Supplies:

Access to FOLIO Inventory.

Procedure:

1) Open up FOLIO. Go into the Inventory app.

2) Search for the resource (title or ISSN).

3) Once in the record, click on the "View holdings" button.

4) Scroll down to "Holdings notes" - the link and username password combo can be found there. Holdings notes do not appear publicly in Locate.

5) For an example, see the record for the resource: Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater.
