Follow this step-by-step guide for adding a web link to your Blackboard course for access to an open-source textbook.

To get started:

1. Obtain the website address and information of the book: https://openstax.org/details/books/college-success

2. Right-click the textbook image and save a copy of the textbook image to insert into your Blackboard that you will embed the URL to it.

Step-by-step guide

Within a Blackboard learning module or content folder:

  1. Click the Build Content Tab Down Arrow to display the menu

  2. Click Web Link

Within the Create Web Link Window:

  1. Type the Textbook Name

  2. Copy and Paste the Textbook Website Address (URL) from this document

To add the textbook thumbnail image:

  1. Click the Plus Button in the Description area

2. Select Insert Local Files

3. Browse for the textbook image file, and Click to Select it

4. Click Open

To add the textbook information (Copy the textbook information from this document):

  1. Right-Click in the Blackboard Description area below the textbook image

  2. Select Paste from the menu

  3. Select Remove Formatting

  4. Click Submit to Save

  5. Click on the Web Link Name to access the textbook

You can also add the website hyperlink to the textbook image. First, copy the Textbook Website Address (URL) from this document

To Edit the Textbook Web Link:

  1. Click the Drop-Down Arrow to display the options menu

  2. Select Edit

Within the Edit Web Link Window:

  1. Click on the textbook image to select it

  2. Click the Insert/Edit Link button on the toolbar

3. Copy and Paste the Textbook Website Address (URL) from this document into the URL box

4. Type the textbook title

5. Click the Open LinkDrop-Down Arrow then Select New Window

6. Click Save

The textbook image now contains the hyperlink to the textbook webpage. Clicking it will open the textbook site in a new window.
