Procedure

  1. Consult either the printed Course Reserve Request email (Moecirc) or a hand-filled Christopher Center Reserve Request Form from a Prof/TA.
  2. Pull items from stacks that are listed on above form.
  3. Open Sierra Circulation.
  4. Using the drop-down menu on the upper right of the screen, choose the “Course Reserves” option.
  5. On the drop-down menu located on the upper left side of the screen, access the correct record denoted on Request Form by either:
    1. “r” Course: Either the Course Department and number (ie: DADA 110) or Course Title (ie: Defense Against the Dark Arts).
    2. “p” Prof/TA: Last name of Professor/TA (ie: Dumbledore).
  6. Double-click the correct name and/or course under the "Results" list.
  7. Click the button marked “Add Item” located in the center of the Sierra screen.
  8. Change the drop-down menu on the upper left of the Sierra screen from “t: Title” to “b: Bar code”
  9. Click to place the computer's cursor on the empty bar beside the drop-down menu.
  10. Scan the item's bar code.
    1. If there are multiple items listed, choose the item with the matching bar code, which should already be highlighted.
  11. Click button marked “Add Selected Item(s)”.
  12. Depending on material type, change location on the drop-down menu of the pop-up screen to:
    1. Cresm for print material
    2. Cresg for media material
  13. Depending on desired loan time (denoted on either printed email Course Reserve Request form or hand-filled Christopher Center Reserve Request Form filled out by Prof/TA) change item type on the drop-down menu of pop up screen to:
    1. 19 – 2 Hour/Library use only (can only be used in the library for 2 hours).
    2. 20 – 2 Hour/Overnight (can be only be used in the library for 2 hours until 1 hour before close where the patron may take the item out of the library, but must return it 1 hour after the library opens the next time).
    3. 21 – 3 Day (can be checked out of the library for 3 days at a time).
    4. 22 – 1 Week (can be checked out of the library for 7 days at a time).

14. If the prof or TA has requested the material remain on reserve until a date that differs from the end of the course, click the black dot next to "until" and type in whichever date applies. 

15. Click “OK” button located in the lower-left side of pop-up screen.

16. For Print materials:

a. Choose Reserve Time Limit slip that corresponds to the chosen item type in step 13.

b. Using a small amount of Rubber Cement, attach Reserve Time Limit slip to the back page of the book being sure not to cover up bar code or any information from the item. (This may involve creative placement and/or shortening of the Reserve Time Limit Slip. Try not to remove or obscure any information on Reserve Time Limit Slip.)

c. Place on section of Reserve tape (using enough to have the entire word “Reserve” on the item) on to the bottom portion of the spine of the book. Try to not cover up the

           Call Number tape located nearby. (This may involve creative placement of the Reserve Tape.)

17. For Media Materials:

a. Place on section of Reserve tape (using enough to have the entire word “Reserve” on the item) on to the bottom portion of the spine of the item. Try to not cover up the

           Call Number tape located nearby. (This may involve creative placement of the Reserve Tape.)

18. On the printed Course Reserve Request form or hand-filled Christopher Center Reserve Request Form filled out by Prof/TA, place a check mark next to each item once you have placed it on reserve.

19. Repeat steps 11 – 16 for addition items to be placed on Course Reserves.

20. Once all items have been placed on Course Reserves, shelve items according to material type and call number.

             a. Print items are located behind the Circulation Desk on the Reserve Shelves according to Call number.

             b. Media items are located behind the Media Desk on the Reserve Shelf

21. Initial and date with today’s date either printed email Course Reserve Request form or hand filled out Christopher Center Reserve Request Form filled out by Prof/TA

22. Place initialed printed email Course Reserve Request form or hand filled out Christopher Center Reserve Request Form filled out by Prof/TA into the slot on the white cubby unit on the Weekend Mangers desk, marked “Reserves Complete”.
